The 1st Stakeholders workshop of Interreg project HarmoNIA on Harmonization and networking for contaminant assessment in the Ionian and Adriatic Seas was held on 20/4/18 in Athens organized by the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) and the Italian National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS). In the workshop participated 26 external stakeholders from Greece, 29 project participants and associated partners. The UN Deputy Director of the Mediterranean Action Plan, Ms Tatjana Hema, was invited to address the issue of pollution from offshore activities and relevant UN policies for the Mediterranean Sea. Also representatives from ministries for the environment from Italy, Croatia and Montenegro developed their national policies and strategic plans on this issue. The chronicle of pollution evolution and relevant results related to last year’s accident of Ag. Zoni oil spill close to Athens Riviera was presented.
