The 2nd Stakeholders Workshop of the HarmoNIA project was held in Split, Croatia, last Thursday, February the 7th, 2019. During this workshop on ‘Integration of different maritime activities. Challenges and tools.’, a lot of interesting information was shared among its participants.
Multiple representatives from various backgrounds gathered in order to share expertise and knowledge on the monitoring and evaluation of contaminants as well as on the management of pollution dispersion risks from accidents and offshore activities within the marine environment of the Adriatic-Ionian region. These representantives derived from several Ministries, regional and county authorities, port authorities, coast guards, environment and public health institutes, universities, research institutes, the Barcelona Convention, as well as from small and medium enterprises and hydrocarbon agencies.
One of the most significant conclusions of the workshop was the need of a harmonized and shared approach concerning pollution monitoring. Furthermore, it was clearly pointed out that common approaches for Environmental Impact Assessment of maritime activities are needed in order to enhance on a transnational level the environmental sustainability within the ADRION area. All these approaches should be in line with the Pillars of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR).
